Time to recap my favorite links this week. Enjoy!</p>
<ul>
<li>This isn&#8217;t actually science fiction, but it&#8217;s close: <a href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44732657/ns/technology_and_science-space/#.TqsE32Ddmkk" target="_blank">NASA and DARPA sponsor a meeting to discuss their 100-year starship project</a>.</li>
<li><a href="http://www.tor.com/blogs/2011/09/all-hallows-read-neil-gaimans-new-halloween-tradition?WT.mc_id=0" target="_blank">Tor is sponsoring a series of giveaways for Halloween</a>: On October 31, they will run a 24-hour sweepstakes marathon, giving away books every hour. Winners get a pair of books: one to keep and one to give away.</li>
<li>Giveaway: A lot of people seem to be excited about the new Brandon Sanderson book (<em>The Alloy of Law</em>) coming in November. <a href="http://inkwing.blogspot.com/2011/10/halloween-contest.html" target="_blank">Inkwing.com is giving away an<em> Alloy of Law</em> t-shirt</a>. I&#8217;m not sure what the deadline is.</li>
<li>In more <em>Alloy of Law</em> news, you can now download for free a six-chapter preview of the book from <a href="http://t.co/RqtHJ3OM" target="_blank">iBooks</a>, <a href="http://t.co/t098AjXE" target="_blank">Amazon/Kindle</a>, <a href="http://t.co/i3gwtDJ6" target="_blank">Barnes &amp; Noble/Nook</a>, <a href="http://t.co/NKAv5Ocz" target="_blank">Sony</a>, <a href="http://t.co/LFdMwV0W" target="_blank">Kobo</a>, or you can read it on <a href="http://t.co/SYYFo75H" target="_blank">Tor Books</a>&#8216; website. If interested, click on whichever vendor/website works for your favorite e-reader.</li>
<li>Giveaway: I&#8217;ve seen (and passed along to you) several contests to win advanced reading copies (ARCs) of <em>The Alloy of Law</em>, but <a href="http://fantasyhotlist.blogspot.com/2011/10/win-copy-of-brandon-sandersons-alloy-of.html" target="_blank">Pat&#8217;s Fantasy Hotlist is raffling off three first-edition hardcovers</a>. I suggest you hurry if you&#8217;re interested because there was no deadline listed.</li>
<li>Do you like urban fantasy? Tor has posted the new urban fantasy books that it will release in November. <a href="http://www.tor.com/blogs/2011/10/fiction-affliction-november-releases-in-urban-fantasy?utm_source=Feedburner:%20Frontpage%20Partial%20RSS%20Feed&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed:%20Torcom/Frontpage_Partial%20(Tor.com%20Frontpage%20Partial%20-%20Blog%20and%20Stories)" target="_blank">Maybe you can find new reading material here</a>. If that&#8217;s not your cup of tea, how about <a href="http://www.tor.com/blogs/2011/10/fiction-affliction-november-releases-in-paranormal-romance" target="_blank">paranormal romance</a>, <a href="http://www.tor.com/blogs/2011/10/fiction-affliction-november-releases-in-science-fiction" target="_blank">science fiction</a>, <a href="http://www.tor.com/blogs/2011/10/fiction-affliction-november-releases-in-fantasy" target="_blank">fantasy</a>, or <a href="http://www.tor.com/blogs/2011/10/fiction-affliction-genre-benders-for-november" target="_blank">genre-benders</a>?</li>
<li>Giveaway: Calling all gamers! You can enter to win a copy of &#8220;Rage: Anarchy Edition&#8221; for your PS3 from <a href="http://www.forevergeek.com/2011/10/win-rage-for-ps3/" target="_blank">ForeverGeek.com</a>. Hurry &#8212; contest ends October 31.</li>
<li>This is just for fun &#8212; <a href="http://brandonsanderson.com/blog/1028/Holiday-deadline-Mistborn-pumpkin-and-Updates" target="_blank">How about a really cool <em>Mistborn</em> pumpkin</a>? <a href="http://walyou.com/star-wars-characters-pumpkin-faces/" target="_blank">Or Star Wars pumpkins</a>?</li>
<li>I don&#8217;t have an iPhone 4 but it&#8217;s almost worth getting one just so I can wrap it in <a href="http://www.zazzle.com/police+call+box+iphone+4+case+speckcases" target="_blank">a protective police box case</a> that curiously resembles Dr. Who&#8217;s Tardis.</li>
<li><a href="http://geekout.blogs.cnn.com/2011/10/25/the-star-wars-divide-a-tale-of-two-costumes/" target="_blank">Here&#8217;s a fun article on CNN&#8217;s GeekOut blog about geeky parents and their children&#8217;s choices of costumes</a>. At the end of the article, there are instructions for uploading pictures of videos of your most creative costume idea. The best ones will be featured on CNN.</li>
<li>And how about a <a href="http://www.neatorama.com/2011/10/25/mr-potato-head-captain-kirk-and-klingon-kor/" target="_blank">Mr. Potato Head Captain Kirk and Klingon Kor</a>? That&#8217;s just not right.</li>
<li>Would you like a chance to win a new Amazon Kindle Fire? Try here at <a href="http://curiosityquills.com/amazon-kindle-fire-giveaway/" target="_blank">CuriosityQuills.com</a>.</li>
<li>Here&#8217;s some cool geek news: <a href="http://techcrunch.com/2011/10/14/shopping-2-0-interactive-hangers-used-in-japanese-clothes-store-videos/" target="_blank">A clothes retailer in Japan has introduced interactive hangers</a> that, when picked up, trigger displays on a computer screen above relevant pictures and videos.</li>
